Some rooms keep secrets. This one deals them.

Hidden at the rear of The Gidley, past the Lounge Bar and down a hallway most guests wander by without a second glance, there’s a door marked ‘Private’. Behind it sits the Library: eight chairs, an American Oak dining table and a secret that only reveals itself once the plates have been cleared.

Terms & Conditions

Dinner first, then business

Your night starts the way every good Gidley night starts, with a drink in hand and a menu in front of you. Settle in with the lounge menu if you’re after something brisk, all oysters, terrine and the Gidley Burger that keeps turning up on lists it has no business being modest about. Or give yourself over to the full dining room experience, charcoal cooked prime cuts and juicy reds, and let the evening take its time. Ordering from the lounge is the quicker route thats perfect at lunch and the dining room menu asks for a little more of your evening, so we’ll take your preference when you book and let the kitchen pace things properly.

Then the room changes. The dining table is lifted away to unveil a custom built, tournament quality poker surface beneath it, green felt gleaming under low light. It’s the sort of reveal that makes even the most composed guest sit up a little straighter.

Your croupier will see you now

You won’t be dealing for yourselves. A professional croupier takes the table, handles the chips, announces the blinds and the prize pool, and keeps the game moving and above board. If someone in your party has never seen a flop in their life, they’ll be talked through it without fuss. If your group takes Texas Hold ’em rather more seriously, you’re in very good hands. Every level of skill is welcome, and the croupier’s word is final, so do behave.

Drinks are ordered and delivered straight to your seat, which means nobody has to leave the table and nobody has an excuse for a short stack. Beverages stay off the poker surface, side tables are provided, and food stops when the cards start. The chips are for glory only, because we don’t take a rake and never will.

The particulars

The Library seats up to eight guests and everyone through the door must be over eighteen. There’s a hire fee covering the room and your croupier, with food and drinks on top and no minimum spend to chase. Sittings are available at lunch and dinner, and the venue calls it a night at close.

Bookings can be made online a handful of days ahead. If you’ve left it later than that, and people usually have, get in touch with us directly and we’ll see what we can do.

Who it’s for

Birthdays that deserve better than a set menu. Client entertaining where the small talk needs somewhere to go. A stag do with a bit of polish on it. Or eight friends who fancy an excellent steak followed by taking each other’s money in a locked room. Whatever the occasion, the Library hands you a private corner of the city, a very good dinner and a story worth retelling.

Bring your poker face. Or don’t. We’ll enjoy it either way.
